Some Good Memories for Father’s Day

June 12, 2008 by happyworksclub

FAMILY =(F)ATHER (A)ND (M)OTHER (I) (L)OVE (Y)OU, author unknown. Mountain Wings.

My father was walking with a friend on the sidewalk in Athens, Pa. when he saw a girl walking with a friend on the other side of the street. He asked his friend who was that girl. “Well, that is Doris Brown. Would you like to meet her?” he replied. “Meet her! I’d like to marry her”, answered Bob Lawrence and he did. Their lives were beautiful together with three girls, friends, family, church and love of Life.

I remember how he taught me to love the water. I learned the healthful benefits of movement in the water, including swimming that saved my little sister from drowning. There was the fun of water sports on the water such as boating, including canoeing, sailing, water-skiing and power boats. He spoke of his enjoyment at hearing the splash as swimming began on vacation. He loved the purity of Skaneatelas Lake water.

One lesson in responsibility I learned when he taught me to shoot the flame out of a candle as it bobbed on the waves of the Lake. When I’d mastered it he said it was time to put the gun away. This came into focus later when I was in charge of a teen-age canoe trip. A storm came up on Lake Winnipesaukee. Sensing it was dangerous, I lead the canoers to shore and shelter in a small building, then called the camp for help.

The lessons he taught nurtured light in me and for others and I thank him for it.

Moving Forward

October 31, 2007 by happyworksclub

How I love it when a client/coachee overcomes a block and is energized to move forward in life.

It could be exercising to lose weight or become fit or it might be any dream or value a person wants to achieve in life.

It is good for us to continue to grow and learn and as we seek what is good for us, and avoid what is bad, we move toward wisdom.

We can’t avoid all pesticides, synthetic sweeteners, fluorescent lights, bad air and toxic people, but we can try. In doing so we seek good and the more good in the universe the better we live.

As a coach I love to help people tap into their inner resources that lead to higher levels of positive energy. They not only experience greater happiness, they give more to the betterment of the whole universe.

A Challenge

September 22, 2007 by happyworksclub

Research is proving the value to health and happiness to you and your community, of doing acts of charity, kindness and gratitude.

An excellent coaching skill is the Challenge, where the coach requests the client to stretch beyond self-imposed limits.

It works like this. I, a Life Coach, Challenge you, the reader, to look around your environment and find something that needs to be done to make it better and do it.

Pay attention to how you feel when you do it, the reaction of the person who receives its value, and your reaction to that.

Note the chain of events and the effect it produces. Remember, even if you don’t get thanked, you may be helping someone learn to do so next time.

Another good act you can do is to write (e-mail) me a brief note of the act you did, how you felt doing it and the reaction of any person involved.

Feeling Good When Doing Good

June 12, 2007 by happyworksclub

The Happy Works Club is about people doing good things for others. The return is often a pleasure to the receiver and leads to more good acts.

As a caution, I ‘m reminded of an early venture to “help” weed the flower garden my mother loved. My zest for action received an okay and I happily spent an hour weeding. My mistake was in not knowing a certain flower from the weeds, and pulled out all the Delphiniums.

Our acts of goodness must have the right knowledge and understanding to benefit others and ourselves. Fortunately my energy was directed into more worthy enterprises. They included college degrees, loving a wonderful marriage partner and two gifted daughters, beneficial friendships and  mentors.

I hope with the Happy Works Club that people will find good support for their own meaningful lives.

It would be good to hear from others, what good acts are you doing?
